Events
Although most of our activities involve campaigning and connecting with other bodies including the Council on local issues and matters of concern, we also think its important to have fun and build a sense of community among the tenants and residents of our area.
So we try to provide some enjoyable events throughout the year for our community.
This also helps us raise some funds to help pay costs for the “serious” stuff we do.
In 2009, we held an Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Monday which attracted around 40 children from around our area and proved to be very successful. Following the huge success of our first fete in 2008 (see below), we held a second fete in September, 2009, again in Brunswick Park.
If you have ideas for future events, either fun or serious, email them to us.
Our Fetes
Many people may have attended one or both of our fetes in Brunswick Park. We estimated that we had over 300 people visit in the few hours we were “open” each year.
Those who visited in 2008 might have heard some wonderful free music from local bands, enjoyed some free barbeque from our local church group, picked up some helpful information and leaflets from our community police group and maybe even grabbed themselves a bargain at one of the many bric-a-brac stalls. And of course enjoyed lots of wonderful cake, courtesy of our Samsom Street Ladies Who Bake. We also had a very popular bouncy castle, face painting stand and free sports clinic for the older kids.
It was great to receive feedback from many who visited, saying things like “I’ve lived here for 15 years and this is the first time I’ve seen the park used for something fun like this”.
In 2009, we held a second successful fete. Not only did we have our popular things from 2008 such as the bouncy castle, face painting and the cake stall but in 2009 we also had a bike surgery, more stalls, crafts activities courtesy of the local college and our own sausage sizzle.
We are hoping to have a third fete in 2010. If you're interested in helping us arrange it or in taking part on the day, contact us.
